Theme:

One of the many themes communicated in A Rose for Emily is "a silent life leads to a silent death." this theme relates to death in the sense that Homer died a very quiet death.Nobody really new that he had left/died considering he hadn't been a major influence in the community. The death of homer ties to directly into the motif of violence becaus

Exposition:

Miss Emily was a tradition, a duty, and a care. She is a figure of recognition, and importance in her town. Her family and ancestral history earns great respect, while sometimes she doesn't get that respect. Although some people protect her, many people are just curious about her and her mysterious life.

Inciting Incident :

Two years after her father's death and her sweetheart-- the one we believed would marry her-- deserted her. She went out very little after her father's death, and soon after her sweetheart left her, people hardly ever saw her. This is her second loss of a loved one, after Colonel Satroris. This starts her losing of and clinging to of loved ones.

Rising Action:

The rising action in this story is when Homer Barron comes into town. He gains the affection of the town, and the love of Miss Emily.

Climax:

The climax of this story is when Emily kills Homer. She is so afraid of losing him that she kills him, to keep him forever. She preserves his corpse, and will never worry about losing him again.

Falling Action:

Resolution:

Denouement :

Symbol:

Although there's never an actual rose in the story the rose represents love. When she meets Homer it seems as if there's true love, but she kills him. This shows on through how the story preserves the rose just as Emily did with her wedding clothes and homers corpse did in the room. She does not know how to let go of things/people she has loved

In this short story the falling action is when Miss Emily is beginning to get old. She is fading into death, and the town realizes.

In "A Rose for Emily" the resolution is Miss Emily dying. The conflict in this story is Miss Emily's fear of losing her loved ones. Although this resolution may not be favored by all readers, it solves the conflict.

Although Emily leaves a lasting impression the town moves on without her
