Determines the appropriate level of support for the student including placement options
The principal or chair provides parent or guardian with a written notice of when the IPRC will meet (location, date and time). If this date or time does not work for them, they are able to reschedule.
Parent/Guardian, student 16 or over, principals, teachers, SERTs and professional support staff are all involved and invited to attend the meeting.
States the recommendation if student is placed in Special Education Class
Discuss and makes additional written recommendations of specific programs or services in order to meet needs of student
The board will establish a special education appeal board to hear your appeal. Three people, one who is selected by the parent/guardian
The chair of the appeal board will arrange a meeting, no later than 30 calendar days after the chair has been selected
The appeal board will receive the material reviewed by the IPRC and may interview any person who may be able to contribute info to the matter under the appeal
The parent/guardian and the child if 16 or older are entitled to be present and participate in all discussions
Within 30 days... the school board will decide which actions to take with the recommendations. You may accept the decision of the board or appeal to a Special Education Tribunal
The appeal board must make its recommendation within 3 days of the meeting's conclusion. They either agree with the IPRC and recommend the decision be implemented OR disagree with the IPRC and make a recommendation to the board. The appeal board reports its recommendations in writing to you and the school board with reasons
The school team will host a CASE CONFERENCE
An informal, problem-solving team meeting where all members who have been working with the student meet with the parent/guardian, and the child if they are 16 and older
Here the team will determine further interventions, the need for outside support, and decide if the student would benefit from being formally identified
