Purepero, Michoacan

The city of Purepero of Echaiz Michoacán, Land of enterprising people, Land of Purepechas . Purepero is a town in the northwest of the state of Michoacán in Mexico. It is located in the middle of the Tarascan Plateau.

Festivals, Dances and Traditions

The main party of Purépero is the day of San Juan, Patron of the town, with fair from June 20 to 25. On the 24th there are dances performed by the different guilds: Bakers, Arrieros, Herreros and Reboceros. The day of San Isidro is also celebrated on May 15, with a parade of carts. On November 22, the population dresses up to celebrate Saint Cecilia's day with a parade of mojigangas and the performance of the classic mariachis of the town: The Mariachi Ordaz and the Cendejas. Another important festival is that of the virgin of Guadalupe on December 12 and civic celebrations such as September 16 and November 20.

Music

Traditional music is the mariachi and the war bands.

Crafts

Leather goods, such as jackets, shoes, clothes, bags, wallets, belts, and others.

Gastronomy

Food: Barbecue, goat marinated, cheeses, sausages and pork rinds.

Touristic centres

Purépero offers visitors the following attractions: El Cerrillo, Municipal Park where you are in contact with nature; the church of San Juan in the neoclassical style; the Municipal Palace, built in 1888 by the Governor of Michoacán, Don Mariano Jiménez; the church of the Immaculate Conception of neogothic style and the spa Las Palmas. In addition to the great musical tradition of Mariachi "Ordaz" who has given international fame to Purépero
