On October 15, 1969, approximately 250,000 protestors of the conflict in Vietnam marched on Washington.

Two million total across the country participated in a moratorium against the war.

Forrest Gump stumbled upon the rally after meeting President Johnson , and spoke in front of the protestors at the National Mall.

Hurricane Carmen was an intense tropical storm, which caused 10,000 Louisiana residents to flee their homes, and damaged the sugar industry.

Forrest and Lieutenant Dan are stuck on their boat during the storm, which destroys all the other shrimping boats, and creates a monopoly for Bubba Gump Shrimp.

Forrest Gump met President Kennedy when he invited the all-American football team to the White House, and Forrest mentions his assassination.

Jenny eventually died on March 22nd, 1982, the day that the space shuttle Columbia was launched on STS-3, (the third space shuttle mission). Near the end of the film, we see Forrest standing beside Jenny's grave, under their oak tree, talking to her. He mentions that he bought the land that had belonged to Jenny's father, and had the house demolished. He is taking care of little Forrest, as the two read books, play ping pong and go fishing. Finally Forrest ponders on whether his mother's life philosophy about having a destiny, or Lt. Dan's life philosophy about floating around accidently on a breeze is accurate, eventually deciding that both of them are right. Forrest then tearfully tells Jenny that he misses her and promises to be near if she needs anything. As Forrest leaves the grave, he watches the birds fly (It is implied that at this moment, Forrest realizes that God has finally answered Jenny's childhood prayer to be made a bird and fly away) In the last scene, Forrest is waiting with his son by the bus stop, waving him off to his first day of school.

He ran to the end of town, the end of the county, the end of the state, and to the end of the coast. Then he ran back a few times. But how far did Forrest Gump run? And for how long? Centives decided to find out.

We know that he began in his fictional hometown of Greenbow Alabama on October 1, 1979. The date is given away when a newscaster announces that President Carter had collapsed that day due to heat exhaustion as Forrest runs through town.

The era of ping pong diplomacy began in 1971, when the People's Republic of China invited the United States table tennis team to their nation to compete.

President Nixon used this overture as a springboard for further diplomatic relations.

Forrest Gump played the ping pong champion who initiated the diplomatic relations between the US and China.
