KTEA test

Kaufman Test of educational achievement, Third edition

Examiners of the KTEA test are highly qualified; examiners with a background in the field of psychology or education who have completed graduate, level training in measurement, guidance, or individual psychological assessment may administer, score, and interpret the KTEA.

Qualified examiners include school or clinical psychologists, qualified special education teachers, educational diagnosticians, reading specialists, counselors, and others within these and related fields. In each section of the test, specific instructions are given covering how to administer the section, what materials the student will need, along with basal and ceiling scores.

What does the test do?

Second edition came out in 2004 and third edition came out in 2014

The KTEA measures a students academic achievement.

Purpose of the test is to measure key academic skills (reading, mathematics, written language, oral language, and reading-related skills) and allow teachers to know where the student is cognitively compared to age and grade peers.

Ages 4:0-25:11

Pre- K- 12

About 80 minutes to administer.

KTEA tests students in various academic domains: Reading, Mathematics, Written Language, and Oral Language composite areas, as well as several reading-related skill areas. Because of the different subjects, the student is tested in and the specific topics highlighted in each area, educators/test proctors are able to see where the student struggles and excels in each area. It covers areas mandated by IDEA and Reading First, which aides in the development of an IEP.

The basal and ceiling rules are posted at the beginning of each section and scores are easy to calculate using the charts in the back of the manual

Scoring can be done by hand or by Q-Global (web-based).

Types of Scores Obtained:

age and grade-based standard, age and grade equivalents, percentile ranks, normal curve equivalents, stanines, and growth scale values

Test Strength(s):covers a wide range of academic areas: reading, mathematics, written language, oral language, and several reading-related skill areas. The test is also time friendly, the test duration ranges from 30-80 minutes depending on the grade of the student

Test Limitation(s): the test does not come in other languages, the questions on the test are skewed towards those who have a more of a worldly experience. Example: on one of the older test that they had a question about payphones, many students today do not know what payphones are.

Materials:

comprehensive form manual, comprehensive forms A and B record forms and student response booklets, comprehensive form A and B error analysis booklets, comprehensive written expression booklets form A and B (specific to grade of test subject), reading only record form A and B

puppet, large pencil, and administration cd.

The KTEA is reliable and valid with a reliability coefficient of .9 and a validity of .6.
