-Species develop adaptations that allow them to reduce or avoid competition with species for resources.
- When populations of some species who are competing for the same resources develop adaptations through natural selection that allows them to reduce or eliminate their competition.
Resource Partitioning:
Occurs when species competing for similar scarce resources evolve specialized traits that allow them to use shared resources at different times, in different ways, or in different places.
Through natural selection, the fairly broad and overlapping niches of two competing species can reduce their niche overlap by becoming more specialized.

-Started from a single ancestor species, but due to evolution through natural selection, there are numerous honeycreeper species, each with a different type of beak.
-Each beak is specialized to feed on certain food sources, such as specific types of insects, nectar from certain flowers, and certain types of seeds and fruit.
