Definition: An epistolary novel is a novel told through a series of letters written by one or more characters.
Example:
Epistolary is derived from the Latin word "epistula", which means "letter".
Stream of Consciousness
Definition: a novel that describes in words the flow of thoughts in minds of characters
Example: The novel "Ulysses" by James Joyce is an example of a Stream of Consciousness novel. Within the text, the lines reveal the thoughts of the main character, Mr. Leopold Bloom. Bloom reflects on his younger self. This self-reflection occurs due to the flow of the thoughts that take him back to his past.
Definition:
- a fictional novel which contains major characteristics such as magic, chivalry, mystery, terror, the irrational, and the perverse- and often a villain pursuing a helpless virgin
-In the 21st century, the term gothic is often applide to stories that, although lacking the medieval atmosphere, achieve the effect of dark mystery and terror

- "The Cask of Amontillado" by Edgar Alan Poe in which a vengeful montresor leads his victim down a long tunnel under a castle and then walls him up alive, the better to enjoy his revenge
