What was there initial relationship between the First Nations and the Europeans?

The early settlers of New France were looking for India but did not go in the right direction so they thought they arrived in India when they actually arrived in North America. The settlers of New France wanted spices, silk and minerals from the "Indians" but the First Nations weren't the "Indians" so they did not have the resources the French were looking for, but they still had lots of stuff the French were interested in so it turned out fine. Since they were looking for the resources the relationship between the two was a positive relationship revolving around trade.

How did the arrival of the settlers of New-France make to the lifestyle and culture of the First Nations people?

How did the relationship change over time? What actions dd each side take to change this relationship?

Religion

First Nations people had their own beliefs which were very different from New France explorers. The explorers had a very strong belief for Christianity and so, they sent missionaries around the land to convert First Nation people to Christianity.

In the beginning, the Europeans and Aboriginals taught each other basic life skills to help each other at the time. Soon, alcohol, guns and metal goods were brought from Europe and influenced the Aboriginals lives. Tribes fought each other with the weapons and more First Nations populations decreased. Then, Europeans wanted even more land and resources, so they would take over villages and territory, take children and women hostage and forced Aboriginals away to live on reserves. Overall, the relationship took quite a turn from peaceful trading into war. The Aboriginals tried to defend themselves, but the europeans were just too stong with their military which gave the Europeans an advantage.

Lifestyle

The New France explorers introduced many new weapons to the First Nation people. Guns were mainly used for hunting, but were later used for war against other tribes for land. Overall, New France explorers took First Nations people for granted and took their innocence as leverage to take their land from them.

Why didn't the king of France come himself?

The king sent other people over to the new land for two main reasons:

-He had to watch over his own country as a responsibility of a king.

-During that time period, lots of kings and royalty passed away pretty fast so kings were succeeded in a very short period of time therefore, they had no time for investigation on the new land.
