Personal Reflection

I personally liked the book because it was a funny, and informational way to tell rising ninth graders what high school is like. Reading it over the summer helped me know what to expect when the year started like for example what the author wrote in the begining "keep away from seniors. Keep away from juniors. Its probably a good idea to avoid sophmores too, since most of them will want revenge for what happened when they were freshmen" (first page) i liked how throughout the entire book he gave these little tips which i enjoyed. I also loved his style of writting he made the story fun witty, and he wasnt afarid to talk about how things are really like in highschool.

Bibliographic Information

Sleeping Freshmen never lie is a story about a freshman named Scott. Scott wasnt the star athelete of his group of friends he isn't the cutest or the toughest or the most popular. He had had a pretty normal life which he loved until the first day of High School when bis whole world turned upside down. He had to deal with bullies, his group of friends started drifting, and his friend from kindergarden, Julia, captured his attention for the first time and he was making a fool out of himself trying to get her attention. At least his life at home isnt changing right?... Wrong, his brother who had dropped out of high school came back to live with him and his mom is having a baby could there be anything worse? Scott starts writing a book for his new brother or sister (ITS NOT A DIARY) so in this book we folow his journey and what he's learned.

Setting

When Scott becomes friends with Lee and Wesley and Scott continues to write high school adivice for his unborn baby brother, Sean.

When scott goes to the dance with Lee, than Julia but daces with julia and gives her most of his attention then realizes that he likes julia

The main setting of the book Sleeping Freshmen Never lie is Scott's school J.P. Zenger High, Scott's house, and some of it was at hospital

Time period- im asumming its current day 2005

Location- i researched this question and aparently its in Pennsilvania

I personally think that the main event is Scott'swhole high school experience and the fact that his mom is having a baby

The first one is finding out tha his mom is having a baby. Then scott's brother moves back in with them. The third one in my opinion is when Lee moves to Scotts school. And also when Mouth tries to commit suicide

Literay Devices

At the end Scott realized tha he has the right friends and that he likes Lee more than julia because looks arent everything

Its the day before the first day of highschool and scott is excited but nervous he hops that him and his friends will stay clkose and he also wants to get closer to Julia

Characters

Protagonist- Scott Hudson

-traits// Scott is a funny, nice, smart, goofy, bookworm. He cheerishes his friends and wants them to stay friends during highschool. He is sweet because hes writing a journal to help his unborn baby borther or sister to help him/her survive high school

Antagonist- Vernon

I think that vernon is the antagonist because he was Julia's boyfriend. He was a football player and he bullied and beat up Scott becauae he knew that Scott liked Julia

Conflict

Onomonopia- The formation of a word from the sound it is associated with

"bam. Thump. Pause. BAM! Pause. Thumpa WHUMP!" p.76

Hyperbole-exagerated statements or claims that are not meant to be taken seriously

"i mujst've carried a grand total of about 87,000 tons of lumber"

Personification- Giving human charactartions to non human objects

"Theres really one thing that seperates people from dogs. Our ears ont twitch foward when we hear something exciting." p.63

Simile- comparing two things using like or as

"mom could barely squeese in the passenger seat. It was like watching someone stuff a roll of socks into a paper towel tube." p.207

Man vs. Man- Conflict between two people

EX.- When Vernon knocked out Scott

Man vs. Himself- Internal conflict

EX.- Whenever Scotts is about to talk to Julia he seems to doubt himself or talks himself out of it

Man vs. Nature- Anything where a character ghas a conflict with anything natural

EX.- When scott's mom had morning sickness (all da long) and she kept throwing up

Man vs. Society- when someone is against something that they find injust

EX.- Lee was different than everyone she wasnt trying to look like everyone els obviousl so she must've been against the un spoken rule of society that everyone has to look and act a certain way
