- In the 2010-2011 school year, KMS ranked 6th among middle schools with 1510 office referrals.
- In the 2011-2012 school year, KMS ranked 4th among middle schools with 1140 office referrals.
Last year, KMS ranked 2nd among middle schools with 959 office referrals.
That's a 2 year
36% reduction!
Or 11,020 minutes of reclaimed instruction time!
How'd we do it?
By creating a climate that positively influenced students
with a consistent adult presence in the hallways
with positive interactions
and incentives for good behavior.
Remember the
80-15-5 rule?
80% of our students had either one or no office referrals, following rules with a positive attitude.
18% had between 2 and 10 referrals, and they could be easily swayed to do the right or wrong thing.
2% had 11 or more, constantly broke the rules and recruited the lukewarm to join their ranks.
Where do we go from here?
We bring that success into our classrooms...
by creating well-organized routines and procedures
by clearly defining ourselves and our expectations
and by keeping a daily balance in our lessons.
Let's make it
a great year!
