Conclusion

The Six Henchmen of the Xie Qi:

Wind, Cold, Damp, Summer Heat, Fire, Dry

Zheng Qi: Also known as Upright Qi. According to Macciocia, the term “Zheng Qi” is often used in opposition to “Xie Qi”, i.e. pathogenic factor, that literally translates to “evil Qi”. In practical terms, “ Zheng Qi” is a general term for all 3 types of Qi, the Wei Qi, Ying Qi and Jing, that play a role in the body's defense from pathogenic factors and therefore the immune response. It is not one specific type of Qi such as Gu Qi is, but a collective term to indicate all types of Qi that play a protective role in the body's Immune responses.

.

Wind is the primary exogenous factor and Cold, Damp, Heat and Dry all depend on Wind as an accessory to invasion of the body. It's element is Wood, corresponding to to the Liver/Gall bladder which can be prone to shouting. Wind invades the upper part of the body and symptoms can be headache, nasal obstruction and itching or pain in the throat.

Cold is a Yin pathogen correlating to Water, Kidney/U.bladder. It is stagnant and contracting, not growing. It is prone to causing chills, fever, a lack of sweat and restricted movement of the limbs.

Damp is also Yin factor of the Earth element. This low life obstructs Qi circulation especially relating to the Spleen and Stomach. His symptoms include heaviness, epigastric distention, edema, scanty urine, hesitant bowel movements and phlegm.

Wei qi +Ying qi +Jing combine forces to form the Zheng Qi that provide our bodies protection against invading pathogens. They are the primary components that maintain immunity strength in the body. When healthy energy of Zheng qi is abundant then the evil Xie Qi forces cannot prevail.

An investigation into the criminal activity of these Six Pathogens was conducted by the Henan Province Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Between June 2011 and September 2013, 286 people reported cases of chronic insomnia accompanied by headache, dizziness, heart palpitations, forgetfulness and fatigue. The elements commonly manifested in a majority of the patients as phlegm-heat, Yin deficiency and Qi stagnation.

Summer Heat is Yang and seasonal specific. It causes symptoms such as high fever, burning heat sensation of the skin, irritability, forceful rapid pulse and excessive sweating as is burns up the body's Yin fluids.

Fire, also Yang, is a trouble maker because it can stir up the Wind and cause fever, headache, eye pain, restlessness and insomnia.

Lastly there's Dry. He's a steely con artist of the Metal element who likes to consumes the body's yin fluids causing dryness in the lungs which impairs the dispersing and descending functions. Also known to dry out the Large Intestine, eyes, hair, skin and mouth.

Xie Qi: Whose alias is Evil Qi, is also not a singular pathogen. It is a collective group of six external pathogens or henchmen that can work alone or invade the body in combination. One does not become sick simply by being exposed to a pathogen. In order for illness to happen, there must be both a weakness in Zheng Qi as well as the presence of one or more pathogens.

Investigation Findings:

The Evidence determined that the most common offense committed was Fire-heat and Damp-phlegm heat in which the pathogenic fire was derived from stagnation of Liver Qi, mental disturbance due to phlegm-heat and common patterns of deficiency in the Spleen as well as the Heart, which houses the Shen. All leading up to chronic insomnia or stolen sleep.

Conclusion

One must be balanced in their life to avoid pathogenic invasion because work or exercise consumes Qi while rest rebuilds it. So find your happy place between work, family and friends. That is where you are the most protected from the Six Henchmen of the Xie Qi.
