Navigating Trade – With Napoleon recently declaring war on Great Britain the United States was at an advantage and between 1803 and 1807, total U.S. exports jumped from $66.5 million to $102.2 million.
The Louisiana Purchase 1803 – Jefferson didn’t want Emperor Napoleon and his dreams of world domination to have land right next door to them and Napoleon needed financing for a new war with England and Jefferson took this opportunity to buy the land from Napoleon. Land deal between the United States and France, in which the U.S. acquired approximately 827,000 square miles of land west of the Mississippi River for $15 million.
1797-1815: Served as president of the American Philosophical Society.
In October, the U.S. Senate ratified the purchase, and in December 1803 France transferred authority over the region to the United States.

Election of 1800 – Thomas Jefferson ran against John Adams in the presidential election of 1800. Along with his running mate Aaron Burr, Thomas Jefferson experienced a bitter rematch of the 1796 election. Thomas Jefferson emerged victorious with 73 Electoral College votes.
• War on the Judiciary 1801: Federalists v. Republicans – Jefferson was suspicious of the judges appointed by his predecessors. Jefferson moved to have judges as well as a justice impeached succeeding in getting John Pickering impeached but failing to get justice Samuel Chase impeached because of political manipulation.

Election 1804 – In the 1804 election Thomas Jefferson was faced by Charles C. Pinckney. Jefferson with the help of his running mate George Clinton easily defeated Pinckney with astounding number of 162 Electoral College votes

Burr Conspiracy 1804 – After getting into a duel with a mortally wounding Alexander Hamilton Vice President Aaron Burr was nationally discredited and disappeared. Later hearing reports that Burr was gathering men and attempting to steal the recently purchased land to the west Jefferson had Burr arrested and imprisoned.
Lewis and Clark Expeditions 1804 – After purchasing Louisiana the next step was to begin exploring what was mostly unknown land. Meriwether Lewis and William Clark embarked on the expedition and returned after nearly 2 and a half years.
