When Benjamin Edwards started it in December 16, 1826 he took 15 to 30 armed settlers to take the old stone fort in Nacogdoches. They put up a red and white flag that had "Independence, Liberty, and Justice" on it.Benajmin and his brother asked Austin's colony and the US for help, but they refused and Austin wanted to help the mexican government to stop it. So the mexican troops from San Antonia came in stopped the revolt. some rebels were captured and some made it across the Sabine river into the US. Even with the Richard Fields the Cherokee chief they still didn't win.
It was started by Benjamin Edwards brother of Haden Edwards who tried to charge people for new land titles in Nacogdoches. Benjamin Edwards started it because he wanted to be separate from Mexico.
