Chert:

QUESTIONS:

Chert is a sedimentary rock that occurs as nodules, concretionary masses and as layered deposits. It is commonly used it to fashion cutting tools and weapons. And in 8000 BC people trade it because it is not founded everywhere

1. How can an igneous rock become a sedimentary rock?

An Igneous rock can become a sedimentary rock by weathering and sedimentation, weathering acts in an igneous rock that means that weathering destroy or break apart the rock so it becomes sediment, sediment are remains of rocks or pieces of rocks, and by the process of sedimentation the igneous rock mix with other types of rocks and also with mineral remains and creates a sedimentary rock.

2. How can an igneous rock become a metamorphic rock?

As the graph say by heat and pressure by the remains of an igneous rock that are under Earth`s surface and it will mix with magma and finally will come to the surface by uplift and erosion .

3. Can a sedimentary rock be transformed into an igneous rock, and then into a metamorphic rock? Explain.

Yes, You also can be guided by the graph.

When magma pass thought the process of crystalliza-

tion it is creating an igneous rock. Then weathering

makes the igneous rock to break up, it deposits and

mix up with other pieces of rocks and minerals by the

sedimentation it transforms into a Sedimentary rock.

Finally goes again down under the surface and

changed over time by extreme pressure and heat and

create a Metamophic rock.

Limestone

Sandstone

Talc:

Limestone is a sedimentary rock that form by the accumulation of shell, coral, algal and fecal debris. You can find it in road base and railroad ballast because is used as a construction material. Its poweder is used as filler in paper, paint, rubber and plastics

Talc is a mineral commonly found metamorphic rocks. Talc may form in the metamorphism of dolomite but in this case the dolomite needs to be impure. Otherwise, the lack of silica will be limiting the growth of talc. It also seems to be a mineral that easily gets pushed aside by other minerals.

Sandstones are rocks composed primarily of sand grains. Often is use as a construction material or as a raw material used in manufacturing

Schist

Schist is metamorphic rock with well developed foliation. It often contains significant amounts of mica which allow the rock to split into thin pieces. It is a rock of intermediate metamorphic grade between phyllite and gneiss.

4.02 Rocks and Rock Cycle

Basalt:

Granite:

Types of rocks you can find in Texas:

It is an igneous rock, formed as an extrusive rock. You can find basalt on the Moon and also in Mars. Used to make road base, concrete aggregate, asphalt pavement aggregate, railroad ballast, filter stone and other construction projects. And sometimes is polished for use as floor tiles, building veneer, monuments and other stone objects

Granite is an other rock that you can find in Texas. Granite is an igneous rock that means that is made by the process of crystallization. Granite is in our daily life it is in counter tops, floor tiles, paving stone, curbing, stair treads, building veneer and cemetery monuments.

*Calcite - Sedimentary rock

*Talc - Methamorphic rock

*Granite - Igneous rock

*Limestone - Sedimentary rock

*Basalt - Igneous rock

*Chert - Sedimentary rock

*Sandstone - Sedimentary rock

*Schist - Metamorphic rock

Welcome to

Texas!

Texas is largest state in the coterminous United States. It is located in the S Central part of the country and is bounded by Oklahoma, across the Red R. except in the Texas panhandle (N); Arkansas (NE); Louisiana, across the Sabine R. (E); the Gulf of Mexico (SE); Mexico, across the Rio Grande R. (SW); and New Mexico (W).

Texas Rocks and Minerals Map

CONCLUSION:

Most of the rocks that we have learn about during this tour are used for construction projects and to make roads.

Something that impress me is that know days technology have evolutionated and they discover that basalt can be found on Mars and the Moon.

I hope you`ve learn something in this tour!!
