Having meat on your table in 1621 meant shooting it yourself. Ducks were probably the main course. Waterfowl was plentiful in the Bay area.

How the Pilgrims Prepared for the Feast
The Pilgrim woman had to prepare for the feast. They roasted the freshly-plucked duck over the fire. Their children would have pitched in by grinding corn into samp, a kind of porridge or corn-based oatmeal.
