"Remorse" by Siegfreid Sassoon

Siegfreid Sassoon was born prior to the world conflict of WW1. During and post paste to the war he composed poems describing WW1, its horrors and its aftermath. His poems often described his anger and hate for the war.

Poor father sitting safe at home

who reads of blunders

Germans screaming for mercy

chaps dying, deathless deeds

He reads of gloom

and dying heroes

there's things in war one dare not tell

The message of this poem is that War is nothing to be proud of or honorable . He describes the horrific scenes of war that even a solider wouldn't tell his father about.

This poem describes the turn of WW1, when the Germans were retreating, in which he describes a German soldier strucken with fear. This is from the point of view a war verteran repenting from his actions durring the war. This poem is important because it shows how veterans feel bad about what they did.

The purpose of this poem is to remind the reader that war takes a toll on the people who fight in it and see its horrors. It also makes the reader realize that the war also has an affect on the homefront.
