Avalokiteshvara is the Bodhisattva of Infinite Compassion. Literally "The Lord who looks down" He is one the most well known and beloved bodhisattvas. Throughout Mahayana Buddhism Avalokiteshvara represents Karuna; the activity of compassion in the world and the willingness to bear the pain of others.
