Identified Weaknesses

Elements in the healthcare system that could cause trouble for the new cancer center include:

• Delay in construction projects.

• Marketing not reaching the people of the community (Studer, 2013).

• Obstacles such as in-climate weather, insufficient funding, or material shortages.

• Loss of trust in the community if project not complete on time (Studer, 2013).

• Lack of contracted Oncologist.

Opportunities

• There is no local cancer treatment center for the citizens of the community.

• Patients have to leave the community to receive great treatment for their disease process.

• Not providing cancer treatment services to the community go against PHH mission and vision.

• Improve patient satisfaction by keeping them local for treatment (Studer, 2013).

• Develop a states of the art cancer treatment center that keeps up on the newest technologies for all types of cancer.

• Develop business partnership with Oncologist in the community.

• Provide a great service to the people of the community.

• Provide services to surrounding communities.

Organizational Changes

History of the Healthcare Organization

Strengths

• Lack of competitive strength in the community.

• Initial financial burden to the facility (Studer, 2013).

• Vulnerabilities if the cancer center is unsuccessful (Studer, 2013).

• The pressure of meeting a deadline once the project is a go.

The change is going to be building a new, state of the art, cancer center. It will be projected to open in the summer of 2016. The cancer center will provide services to the residents of the community who need treatment as well as reach out to outlying communities.

Port Huron Hospital (PHH) opened its doors June 8th, 1905 and was a 32 bed facility.

Strengths of PHH include the following:

• Caring for the community they serve and wanting to serve all their healthcare needs.

• The facility has a vision to support and help its community (Studer, 2013).

• The facility used its patient surveys and is building a cancer center based on the voice of the community (phh.org)

• There is Oncologist wanting to serve the community they provide a service in.

• PHH has a marketing program that can reach the community and distribute the good news of a local cancer center serving the community (Studer, 2013).
