Shield Volcanoes

shield volcanoes are named after the way they look.

erpution type: mildly explosive erupt lava from a breach in the side

magma: low viscosity, hot soft

shape: steep sides small crater surrounded by debris of small red rocks with little holes (rocks solidifies around bubbles)

eruption type: explosive violent,

lava flow

magma: slightly cooler, thick and sticky

  • shape: regular shape, steep side cones, rough landscape layer of lava, ash and rock make it tall.
  • Eruption Type: slow, can be violent

  • Magma: highly viscous

  • Shape: hard thick layers of rock fall apart after every eruption.

eruption type: gentle lots of magma.

magma: hot fast moving

shape:wide and low with gently sloping slopes. (from layer of lava cooling)

Another name for composite volcano is Stratovolcanoes.

cinder cone are the smallest type of volcanoes in the world.

VOLCANOES

(how many types are there?)

What causes volcanoes to erupt?

The Earth's crust is made up of huge slabs called plates, which fit together like a jigsaw puzzle. These plates sometimes move.

Between the Earth's crust and the mantle is a substance called magma which is made of rock and gases.

When two plates collide, one section slides on top of the other, the one beneath is pushed down. Magma is squeezed up between two plates.

But in my experiment instead of magma I had a chemical reaction with baking soda and vineager that was playing the role of magma.
