The ok tedi is an open-pit copper and gold mine in Papua New Guinea located near the headwaters of the ok tedi river, in mountains of western Papua New Guinea owned by Broken Hill Proprietary (BHP)

after the disater more modern medicine, clean water and a more varied food supply to the 15 or so thousand people that live in the town of Tabubil.
, In 1999 Ok Tedi environmental disaster happened, due to the annual discharge of millions of tons of mining waste beein dumped in river, has harmed the environment and livelihood of 50,000 people who live on or near the Ok Tedi River.
The waters in the river system were undrinkable and poisonous to people, fish, plants and the wildlife which sustains their life, culture and religion and the this area could dry out maybe in 10 years, maybe in 100, maybe in 1,000 and will cause a major problem for the floodplain and 90 million tons of mine waste is dumped each year into the Ok Tedi river after the disaster which created pollution in ok tedi river.
