Predictions Come True?

Similarities In Our Societies

Information & Media

  • F 451: Bradbury was exposed to the explosion of television, commercials, and movies. He mocks advertising when Montage goes to visit Faber. (subway advertising that people are humming absentmindedly)
  • Our Society: Information affects the decisions we make, the habits we develop, such that we don't realize it's happening. Advertisement gears us to brand loyality by the time we are adults (Nike vs. Adidas, Starbucks vs. Dunkin')

Info & Media (Cont.)

Educational Equality

  • F 451 Education: Lack of books=more academically equal, the government has control of the national curriculum, Clarisse is bullied for being different from the other children, emphasis on technological studies
  • Our Education: less academically equal, but common core is becoming more prominent (national curriculum where we all learn the same way, and the same content), differences are not celebrated, kids are still bullied today, art majors are de-emphasized, stronger funding and encouragement on STEM majors with longer education

Firemen

  • F 451: firemen have duties to preform "what is good for the people"; protection, help, safety--do this by burning books to keep everyone on the same playing field
  • Our Society: firemen protect the people by
