Instruments of the Jazz Band

The Wind Section

Saxophone:

-In a typical jazz band they play the melody and counter melodies.

-They sometimes add "hits" and "color" to the rhythm section.

-Used as a lead instrument in small group ensembles.

Trumpet:

-When added to the jazz band, adds a "sprinkle" of something new and different.

-Along with the bass, drums, and piano, it is a part of the rhythm section.

-Like the piano, the guitar can be used as the complete rhythm section, of as a solo instrument.
