Precipitation

Eventually, the other water droplets and I become to heavy to stay part of our cloud, and have to say goodbye to our friends that get to stay. We fall to the ground in the form of rain, snow, sleet, or hail.

Infiltration

Condensation

Infiltration is when my friends and I soak into the groundwater supply. There, we become your drinking water!

Once we are in the sky, our temperature cools, and we start to become a liquid again. This is called condensation. My fellow droplets and I become clouds.

Evaporation

Transpiration

Groundwater

Once I have infiltrated the ground, I become part of the groundwater, and make new friends! From here, the water cycle begins again.

Sometimes, my friends and I are on a plant when it is time to become a gas. So instead of evaporating from a body of water, we transpirate from the leaves of a plant.

The source for the energy in the water cycle is the sun. The heat from the sun causes water molecules to become a gas. In this stage, my friends and I float up to the sky to become part of a cloud.

Runoff

Hi! My name is Fred the water droplet! This is the story of my journey through the Water Cycle.

Sometimes, when too many of us fall too quickly, we can't all become part of the groundwater. We collect together and flow down slope. From there we either reach a larger body of water, evaporate, or form puddles.
