The last few years of my life in Scouting have been
amazing. I would encourage anyone to go for
their Scout Meadllion. But if that work isn't for you,
then you should still come up to Venturers. It's alot better then Scouts.
After that it just got better. Venturers is a lot more different to Scouts. The biggest difference is the camps. We have a camp called The Big Burger Challenge. You set up in the afternoon and come dinner time you and your team cook the biggest burger you can. Then you sit up all night in front of the fire feeling your going to have a heart attack.
Last December, Joseph and I planned our
Scout Medallion hike together. We decided to do it down near Arthurs Seat and Cape Schank,
along the Two Bays Trail.
Working towards my Medallion was probably one of the most fun and challenging parts of scouts. I had lots of fun planning and running a few nights, as well as doing a few other little things, but the best part was probably organizing the 30km hike
Another part of earning my medallion was picking my elective badge. I chose to do the environment part, which got me my World Scout Environment badge. It involved going on a tree planting camp in Benalla, as well as writing a few reports and running a scout night
Never thought we would be so happy to see a lighthouse ever again
So after all that hard work I finally did it. I had a presentation in front of the troop where I was given the badge, and another presentation where I was presented with the actual Medallion and a Certificate.
So after going for a few weeks I finally linked up. The other Venturers came to Scouts one night and prepared me. They blindfolded me and took me outside. I didn't know what they were doing at first. Then they brought me inside and everyone started laughing. They took my blindfold off, and i was hanging from a pole over a fire. After being roasted I was finally a proper Venturer
By the time all that was done, I was almost 15, which meant i was becoming too old for Scouts, and it was time to move on to Venturers. So I went along and gave it a try
My first meeting with the Venturers was at what we call a 'Wakeover.' It's exactly what it sounds like, a sleepover but instead of sleeping you stay awake the whole time and watch movies or play Xbox. Then in the morning we walked down to the ANZAC day dawn service. It was a really great night.
