Overall, I am very pleased about the things that I have learned and accomplished over this semester and I am excited to see the results of my application.

As a writer, I can use all of this information moving forward to know what to look for in other pieces of writing. I can also use this for my future pieces of writing whether it's for school, a job, or even my personal life.

Rhetorical Situation

Since the beginning of the semester I have learned many different things. Before then…

Strengths:

• MLA Format
• Writing a thesis
• Identifying the audience and purpose

Weaknesses

• APA Format
• Writing a good research paper
• Sounding professional

After this semester, I feel like the weakness I had are now strengths of mine. I have learned and practice what good writing looks like and presented that into all the essays as well as my personal statement.

In the beginning of the year, we talked about what kinds of things lead up to a rhetorical situation

We all created a web that included what kind of situations we have on a day to day basis

Both of these things ultimately lead up to what we started at the beginning of the year… our rhetorical situation

We also talked about how the writer, audience and the text all lead up to the big picture: the context

One of the challenges I faced was what to write about. I ended up choosing to write about how I got denied the first time when I applied and how that has pushed me to do better and hopefully get accepted this coming fall

One of the first things that I did was analyze and find evidence as to what Michigan State is looking for in the personal statement. This included what type of things I should talk about, what things to avoid, what makes me stand out, and what I really want to accomplish.

The topic that I chose for the personal statement was, “Michigan State University recognizes that an assortment of interests, viewpoints, and life experiences are important in student learning and enhance the university community. Describe an experience, passion, or characteristic that illustrates what you would contribute to the MSU community and how this will add to the overall richness of campus life.”

I noticed changes in my writing throughout the whole semester, but I noticed the most when I wrote my personal statement. For an example, I sounded more professional in my writing and I got my point across without going into something irrelevant.

Finding the answers to these questions helped me decide what type of things I should or should not include in the personal statement, which made the writing process much easier.
