The Jane Addams stamp...
In 1931 I was the first american woman to get the Nobel peace prize, I had a back operation a couple of years before that to make my back straight but I had a heart problem as well. My best friend Mary Rozet Smith was taking care of me risking her own health she developed pneumonia, quickly sank into a coma and died.
I graduated on June 22, 1881, on August 17,1881 my father was exploring some mining property when he started complaining about terrible stomach pains,he was admitted into the hospital and died because of a ruptured appendix.
In the fall of 1877 I went to Rockford Female Seminary for college I was known to be trustworthy yet a bit mischievous.

My childhood
I spent most of my childhood playing outdoors, reading indoors and attending Sunday bible school, at four years old I contracted tuberculosis of the spine or Potts's disease. In November 1868 my father got remarried to a woman named Anna Haldeman.

(Jane Addams at age eight years old)
My name is Jane Addams I was born on September 6,1860 I had an older brother John Weber (known as Weber) three older sisters Mary Catherine,Martha, and Sarah Alice (known as Alice). One of my earliest memories is a very sad one my mother Sarah Addams died when I was only two years and four months old, after that I became more close to my father.

In early 1915 my sister Alice passed away after a long battle with cancer, three years later my brother Weber died in an Illinois hospital for the insane(he started hearing voices after our father passed away)then about a year later my step-mother passed away while I was in Europe.
In late 1909 my step-brother George died because of his mental condition at the age of forty-nine, years later I sent a letter to famed suffragist Carrie Chapman Catt which she declared the cause of peace. We later made a meeting for women all across the world(no men allowed only women!) it was called The National American Woman Suffrage Association(NAWSA)
About eight years later my friend Ellen Gates Starr and I went to go find a settlement home to help the poor and ones in need, we found a settlement house and asked one of the owner's relatives if we could have a small portion to help the poor, she was pleasantly surprised at the fact that we had interest in helping the poor so she gave us the whole mansion for no cost!
