-Dawes Act forced Native Americans to 'Americanize', or assimilate to the American culture.

  • Discuss the impact of Westward Expansion had on Native Americans and problems that occurred as a result. Include the short term and long term effects on Native Americans.
  • Explain how 2 of the inventions or innovations discussed in class have impacted the world in the short term and the long term.
  • Explain how the expansion of railroads and the increasing influence of railroads affected farmers in the United States. What effect did railroads have on other businesses?
  • Discuss vertical and horizontal integration and how this would benefit businesses. Include reasons why this can be seen as an extension of the laissez faire philosophy of economics?
  • Labor Unions began to form during the late 1800s in different American industries. Discuss why labor unions formed, the short term, and long term effects, including public perception of unions at the time.

Populism- The Movement of the People

Party Platform- wanted an increase in the money supply, graduated income tax, and a federal loan program. Also wanted the election of U.S. Senators by popular vote, single terms for the President and Vice -President, and vote by secret ballot.

This will later become the platform for the Democratic Party. (Reforming Social Injustices)
