Delos Davis

Delos Davis was born on August 4, 1846.

He died on April 15, 1915 at the age of 69.

He was born as a black enslaved African in Maryland, but escaped using the underground railroad.

Delos Davis was married to Nancy Jane Mitchell,

him and Nancy had three sons and four daughters.

He also married Mary Jane Banks but she died when she was giving child birth.

Delos Davis was a former teacher until he got interested in law .

He wanted to study law but he couldn't due to racist acts, until he found two willing people Mr.Gordan Watts Leggat and Mr.Charles Robert Horne.

After he finished his studies

he had to take a lawyer test

but he couldn't due to racist acts.

He convinced the MPP to make a law stating if he passed the test he could act as a lawyer.

He passed the test and was the first black man to be

allowed to practise to be a barrister in 1885 and a solicitor by 1886.

By 1910 he was the first black person to be named the Kings council.

This is my black historian and I hoped you enjoyed.
