Creating a Kickstarter project
What is Kickstarter?
"world's largest funding platform for creative projects"
Student Guidelines
Students will choose their own groups of 2-3 members, and create an original project/company/organization, etc.
Week 1: Develop an idea, using inspiration from Kickstarter (or elsewhere), and answer following questions:
can be filling a societal need, or as simple as interest or hobby
Weeks 2 and 3: Create a short video, or series of images, that represents your creative project
- Should reflect the three answers developed during Week 1
- 1-2 minute video to help explain concept and goals
- Can use images found online, green screen, reenactments - any of the techniques already utilized in previous projects
- iMovie, Photoshop, GarageBand, etc.
Week 4: Editing the video/refining their Kickstarter page
Week 5: Sharing Kickstarter projects with class
- Can use Google Doc to share links to all Kickstarter pages
- Groups will present their concept to class, and receive feedback on idea and development
- Peer reviewing should reflect what students like about the project, and what could be improved upon
Critical aspects of the project
- attempt to foster creativity, and provide an outlet for small, but influential ideas
- with rise of technology, more opportunity for small businesses and ideas to flourish
- Kickstarter allows for development and reception of creative ideas that otherwise may not have had an outlet for expression
- offers immense opportunity for creative thinking
- reflects world of diverse thoughts, and gives privilege and influence to unique ideas
- group work will ideally reflect amalgamation of interests - social interaction, as well as participation on a global scale
original project centered around formation of a company
wanted a broader scope - using Kickstarter as formatting guideline, allows for much more creativity and more easily expresses a range of interests
Feedback from focus group
seemed somewhat limiting, and a much narrower project
- peer reviewed
- self-assessed
- What is our goal?
- Why do we want to do this?
- How do we hope to achieve this goal?
