John D. Rockefeller was one of America's first entrepreneurs/philanthropists along with many others. This started the rise of "the big business" or giant corporate companies who rule the markets. He started investing in the oil industry by buying out stock in a Cleveland, Ohio refinery.
In 1865 Rockefeller started growing his oil business called Standard Oil. However, to do this he had to borrow money from some of his partners to gain control of the business before anything else. Rockefeller slowly started buying out all of his competitors companies until he was the leader in oil production.

In 1855, when Rockefeller was about 16 years old, he got a job as an office clerk for a Cleveland commission firm that bought and sold grain, coal and other goods. Later, sometime in 1895 Rockefeller started his own commission firm with a partner and during that same year America's first oil well was drilled in Pennsylvania. Rockefeller will soon start moving up in the world of work force and have people working for him instead of him working for a person.
Rockefeller's plan was to live until he was around 100 years old, however this goal was cut short when he sadly died at the age of 97. He died at his Winter home in Ormond Beach, Florida. Rockefeller was then buried at Lake View Cemetery in Cleveland Ohio. His accomplishments were amazing and what he did while he was alive was an utter astonishment.
