Elephant Run

By Andrew Lester

Nick prepares his escape with Mya and starts his job.

The Japanese find Nick and hold him in Hawks nest

Nick gets a tour of the plantation from Mya

Nick have a close call from a Japanese General and find the camps where his dad and Indaw are.

Nick is forced to stay in Hawks nest while his father goes to a camp. Nick's only goal is to get out but the house is to well secured. Nick is forced to work in the garden and the airfield the Japanese are building. Nick's only hope is that someone comes to help him.

Nick gets a tour of the plantation from Mya and sees all of the houses that the people of the village have. He also gets a look at the Elephant training area where the Mahouts, who are the elephant trainers are. He meets Magwe who is one of the trainers that doesn't like Mya.

It turns out Hilltop had told Mya about the passages too and Hilltop wants to get them both out of the building. Hilltop tells them that one day he will put a clay figure in the bowl he caries and that will signal the "escape". Nick and Mya plan to open their windows to make it look like they escaped but really just hide in the secret passages.

A Japaneses General finds them in the forest and almost captures them but Hilltops smart thinking saves them. They them go to where the camps for Indaw, Mya's brother, and Nick's dad are.

Nick's Apartment gets bombed and he has to move to Burma with his dad.

He is in there for a while until Hilltop comes and shows him the secret passages.

Nick goes to an island to set the elephants free and the Japanese invade

Nick, Mya, and Hilltop get away from hawks nest and try to go and find Nicks dad and Indaw.

Nick rescues his dad and Indaw and they escape to find out his step-dad is there to help them get safety

Nick has moved around a lot and finds himself in London during WWII. The bombings in London come very often and Nicks apartment gets hit with a fire bomb. His mom wants him to be more safe and forces him to go live with his dad.

One day while Nick is in his room Hilltop appears behind him. Hilltop is a monk that everyone thinks can speak to the elephants. Hilltop tells Nick there are secret passages in the house and that is how he got into Nicks room. Nick then explores the secret rooms every night to try and know all about them.

Nick's Father knows the Japanese are going to invade and doesn't want them to use the Elephants so they can get around the Jungle and search for people. At night when they are camping the Japanese find them and capture them. Nick hides in the water but is eventually found and brought back to Hawks nest with the others.

The day comes when they actually escape and no one suspects it because they already think they did. When the are about to get out Magwe finds them. He was secretly working for the Japanese and Nick thought it was over for them. It turns out though Magwe didn't like them either and helps them get out. After they leave Magwe decides to blow up their airfield which they will have to build again causing more work for the villagers.

Nick watches as his father is buried into the ground. Nick thinks his father is dead and starts to cry. Just when all seems lost Hilltop comes in and tells nick to dig up the grave. Nick doesn't understand why but does as he is told. When he lifts the grave he finds there is a hole for his father to breath. It turns out he was alive!! Once they get out Nick's step-father, who worked for the British, is there to get them out. Nick eventually is sent to a place that Nick's step-father ordered them to go.
