The Andromeda Galaxy is 2.537 million light years away from Earth, 9.006 billion years old and has 1 trillion stars. The Andromeda Galaxy, also known as Messier 31, M31, or NGC 224, is a spiral galaxy approximately 780 kilo parsecs from Earth. It is the nearest major galaxy to the Milky Way.

The discoverer of the Andromeda Galaxy is Edwin Hubble . In 1924, December the 30th astronomer Edwin Hubble announced that the Andromeda was actually a galaxy. He also said that the Milky Way was also one of the many galaxies in the Universe.

In 4.5 billion years the Andromeda Galaxy and Milky Way are expected to collide and the result will be a giant elliptical galaxy. The Andromeda Galaxy is surrounded by 14 dwarf galaxies.
