Working Together to Better Education

Final Concerns

My Opinion

I feel that Common Core and federalized education is losing its relevence and hurts more students than it helps. Coming from Nevada, however, I understand how it can be percieved as necessary so everyone in the nation can have a level playing field.

Future of Federal Education

Education adversaries in the United States oppose Common Core Curriculum and scripted teaching. The country is looking towards the future as an opportunity to return the focus of education back to the states. Though the issue is not clearly stated, Amendment X reserves this un-delegated power to the states.

The main concern with removing common core is the difference in education level among the states. The issue of standardized testing for collegiate acceptance is also involved. People feel it is unfair for students in some states to be more prepared than students in other states just due to curriculum in that area.

Education in the Constitution

The issue involved in federal decisions with education is that there is no statement in the constitution involving federal education policy. It was the notion that power not be concentrated in one place, and that decisions over public policy be made at the levels and by the leaders who are in the best position to make them.

Common Core Education

The Common Core is a set of high-quality academic standards in mathematics and English language arts/literacy (ELA). These learning goals outline what a student should know and be able to do at the end of each grade.
