In 1858 after the Sepoy mutiny the British took direct control of India those areas were called Raj. A cabinet minister in London directed policy and a British governor general in India carried out the governments order.

Great Game War

Great Britain vs. Russia over the Muslim lands in central Asia over India. Russia wanted to expand and India riches . Brits defended and spread their empire out wards. Afghanistan was the center of the struggle. After decades of fighting Great Britain withdrew in 1881. In 1921, GB agreed to only expand its empire to the Khyber pass and no further.

Winston Churchill was a soldier that became a war correspondent for the newspaper on his experiences. He was captured during the Boar war but he got away eventually. He has wrote a few books on wars.

  • 1839-1842- Opium war ends with treaty of Nanking
  • 1857- The Sepoy Mutiny against British rule in India takes place.
  • 1858- India comes under direct rule of Great Britain.
  • 1875- GB gains control of Suez canal and begins to establish a protectorate of Egypt. ( in 1882)
  • 1884-1885- the Berlin Conference. (splitting of Africa for European countries)
  • 1899-1902- The Boer war.
  • 1910- South Africa is established as an independent country.
  • 1952- Nasser and Egypt over throw british rule.
