How to Make Cascarones
What are Cascarones?
Cascarones are a Latin American tradition used for Easter, Cinco de Mayo, Carnival and other celebrations. It is an egg shell filled with confetti used to crack over someone's head and shower them with the confetti inside. It is believed to be good luck to have a cascaron broken over your head. It might sound strange, but it's actually really fun.
(kas-ka-ron-e)
1. Gently tap on the top of the egg
2. Peel away some of the top of the shell with your fingers or a toothpick.
3. Poor the yolk into a bowl
4. Rinse the egg with water over the sink until it is no longer slimy.
5. Place a paper towel in the egg carton and leg eggs dry
6. When eggs are dry fill with confetti using a spoon. You might have to break away some of the shell to make sure the opening is big enough to fit confetti. Only fill about half way up.
7. Cut the tissue paper into squares big enough to cover the holes you made.
8. Place glue around the edge of the hole on the egg.
9. Put the tissue paper on the open hole of the egg where the glue is to seal the opening.
