What are the symptoms ?

How Is Transmitted?

The secondary stage

Syphilis infection occurs in four distint stages:

· Early or primary syphilis

· Secondary stage

· Latent syphilis

· Tertiary syphilis

This people experience a rosy "copper penny" rash typically on the palms of the hands and on the soles of the feet.

They may also experience moist in the groin, white patches on the inside of the mouth and weight loss.

It may last between one to three months.

Is transmitted by sexual activity, occasionally, the disease can be passed through close bodily contact.

Syphilis is caused by the bacteria "Treponema pallidum"

If isn't treated ?

Early or primary syphilis

WHAT IS SYPHILIS ?

Pregnants with this disease can spread it to their baby, this is called Congenital syphilis. It can cause even death to the child.

It cannot be spread by toilet seats , shared clothing or eating utensils.

If syphilis is left untreated, it can cause serious and permanent problems such as dementia, blindness or even death.

People that have syphilis will develop one or more sores. The sores are usually small painless ulcers.

They occur on the genitals or in or around the mouth somewhere between three weeks.

Is an illness, that is a highly contagious disease spread primarily by sexual activity.

There are three theories :

- Pre-colombian theory.

- Colombian interchange.

- Guiñada's theory.

Tertiary syphilis

How is Diagnosed ?

If the infection isn't treated, it may then progress to a stage characterized by severe problems with the heart, brain, and nerves that can result in paralysis, and even death if it's not treated.

Syphilis can be easily diagnosed with a quick and inexpensive blood test given at your doctor or at a health clinic

Latent syphilis

How is treated ?

This is where the infection lies dormant (inactive) without causing symptoms.

If you've been infected with syphilis for less than a year, a single dose of penicillim is usually enough to destroy the infection.

If you are in a later stage of disease, more dose will be needed.
