Components
Knowledge base: Uses x-ray to determine the stages of the cancer.
Knowledge Aquisition: Allows medical experts to edit information within the system.
Explanation interface: Uses data collected to provide detailed conclusion.
It is used for two reasons:
1. Solve a problem that is not easily solved using traditional programming techniques.
2. Develop a solution faster than human experts can.
Obviously it is used in the medical field. Technicians use it to diagnose lung cancer patients, and use expert systems like this one to give an accurate prognosis.
PXDES, is a expert system that uses an inference engine to determine the type and degree of pneumoconiosis, or lung cancer.
It uses X-rays to look at shadows on the lungs. These shadows then are used to determine the type and degree of lung cancer.
