Salt March
1930
- Gandhi believed in not violence so he planned the march to the closing British salt factory
- The guards responding be clubbing and beating the peaceful protesters
- This event spread worldwide and the world began to call British to grant Indian independence.
Amritsar
1919
- Indians were upset with the false promises by the British
- Protesters were arrested and sent to jail without trial
- Outside the temple of Amritsar, British soldiers started shooting because Indian were meeting illegally
- 400 were killed and 1200 were injured

- Many people followed Gandhi in his non-violent acts and protests
- British gave up on India after WWII because they had no money left
- Gandhi is credited for Indian Independence

- Nationalism-belief that people should be loyal to those who share similar history and customs.
- In India, nationalistic feeling started showing up
- Also, Indians were heavily taxed and were treated second class citizens in their own country.
- British said if they aided them in WWI, the Indians would have more control in the government. Sadly, nothing happened.
British in India
1600s
- In 1948 at the age of 78 Gandhi was murdered while to his a prayer.
- He was shot three times by Brahmn. He resented Gandhi because of his concern of the muslims.
- Hindus and muslims never got along and they still don't.
- Britian came into India in the 1600's because they wanted the natural resources (ivory, gold, and dyes) and spices.
- 1760-British gained political and economic power in India
