Before writting the Constitution

*After reading law with Joseph Reed in Philadelphia, Bedford won admittance to the bar and set up a practice law. (1779-1783)

*He was later elected to the Legislative Council of the Delaware General Assembly.

*In late 1772 or early 1773 Bedford married Jane B. Parker.

*He had 5 children.

*He was not a member of the Virginia House of Burgesses.

Gunning Bedford, Jr.

*Bedford was a delegate to Delaware's ratification convention in 1787. On September 27, 1789, Bedford was nominated by President Washington to be the first judge for the United States District Court for the district of Delaware. Bedford was confirmed by the United States Senate on September 26, 1789, and received his commision the same day. He held the position until his death. He resigned his post as Delawares attorney general in 1790.

*Gunning Bedford, Jr. was born April 13, 1747 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

*He also remained in politics.

*He died on March 30, 1812 in Wilmington, Delaware

*How he died is unkown, but we can imply that it was either a disease or murder because of his age. (65)
