What is Democracy?

  • Democracy is a system of government based on the principle that the state's power is vested in the people and may be used by the people or their elected officials under a system of free elections. In theory, democracies may be either direct or representative.
  • Democracy or "rule of the commoners", was originally conceived in Classical Greece, whereby political representatives were chosen by lot from amongst the male citizens: rich and poor. In modern times it has become equated to elections or "a system of government in which all the people of a state elect representatives to a parliament or similar assembly"

According to political scientist Larry Diamond, democracy consists of four key elements:

THEORIES OF DEMOCRACY

There are four main theories of democracy considered central to democratic governments. These theories focus on individual engagement in the political process, the rationale for governmental involvement and how it connects with societal needs.

But actually the correct answer is no because since we live under the queen's ruling so we are not considered a democracy. However we do have some democracy so we are mostly described as a Constitutional Monarchy.
