Exploring Globalization grade 10 text book

The WTO is an important part in making sure that countries can agree on how

trade will work between them and what countries can and cannot do to get ahead in their economies. The WTO prevents discrimination between countries, supports open trade by stopping improper trade barriers, allowing competition without unfair advantages, predictability in trade, confidence that barriers will appear without reason, be beneficial to undeveloped countries,

Environmental Responsibilities

Help with the production of cotton

The environment has become a big part of criticism to the WTO, and though many things can be done to protect the environment that doesn't mean the WTO has forgotten about the environment completely. The past examples show that the WTO does promote green projects. Polices won't prevent some projects from happening, and keeping them as subsidies makes it very beneficial to have for the government. Trading that could bring pests or diseases to then environment can have barriers, and Ownership can be refused if it threatens the environment. These show that the WTO has made efforts to protect and promote the protection of the environment.

An article about WTO show their continuing support and aid to the production of cotton. Since 2005 cotton producers ,especially in Africa, have been given donations and support to aid in the development of cotton production. Now recipients and donors are increasing the flow of money put into projects to maximize the amount spent in on going activities and assistance projects. Though their is an increase in the money given the amount spent in projects has been decreasing on a small scale. WTO members have decided on making efforts to raise the amount of money spent. But timing, such as when the projects started, when it will end, how much is completed and the time payments are given are a large factor under the use of the money. Meetings have been made to exchange information about the aid for cotton.

Help with the production of cotton

The World Trade Organization is supportive of other countries economies and has a great effort to improve the members economies by supporting production. This article is a very good example of the support the WTO members show. Also the WTO has continued assist cotton producers to improve development of their production, giving them them support that is beneficial and helpful to trade with countries around the world.

The World Trade Organization

Run by governments who are members of the organization. It was created in 1995 to inflate the amount of international trade. It handles trade negotiations like lowering tariffs and barriers, Implementation and monitoring trade, settles trade disputes, Builds trade capacity of developing countries. The organization makes sure that trade agreement terms are followed. The agreements the WTO makes are binding and they come to decisions by consensus.

Aircraft Disagreements

Since the WTO was created for stopping global conflict it continues to stop disputes about trade. When countries create unfair subsidies the WTO is helpful by steping in to resolve the problem with negotiations. The WTO also is stepping in so the dispute between these two industries don't cause them to utilize more and more subsidies which could affect the economy of Europe and the United States. The WTO continued to allow competition between the two industries but made sure that rules were being followed so that trade between the countries will run smoothly.

Aircraft Disagreements

The next article, from the New York Times, shows a dispute that the US has been giving Boeing, an aircraft industry, inappropriate subsidies of about 5 billion dollars. This gave them a great advantage against Airbus their European rivals. Through earlier WTO investigation proved that Airbus had an large advance of four decades of unfair subsidies to take the lead as the worlds top jet constructor. The decision came to be that the argument over these subsidies would be settled by trans-Atlantic negotiations.

Environmental responsibilities

  • "GATT Article 20: policies affecting trade in goods for protecting human, animal or plant life or health are exempt from normal GATT disciplines under certain conditions."
  • "Technical Barriers to Trade (i.e. product and industrial standards), and Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (animal and plant health and hygiene): explicit recognition of environmental objectives"
  • "Agriculture: environmental programmes exempt from cuts in subsidies"
  • Intellectual property: governments can refuse to issue patents that threaten human, animal or plant life or health, or risk serious damage to the environment (TRIPS Article 27).

These are some agreements the WTO has made concerning the environment so that some policies and laws don't dispose of environmental projects.
