DO NOT TOUCH OR EAT

How to tell if a plant is edible or poisonous

  • Poisonous part-leaves and stems
  • symptoms-minor skin irritation, painful blisters, inflammation
  • medium shrub
  • thick leaves
  • 2-7 cm long with fine serrations along most edges
  • Leaves often grow in whorls of 5-8
  • Grows in southern Alberta

You can't tell by looking at a plant and you cant taste it because if it is poisonous you could die from it. You have to use your basic knowledge on the interactions you have had with plants already. If you do see a plant you don't know about do not touch it or go near it because it may be poisonous on the outside or release poisonous fluid or gasses.

Roseroot

  • Young leaves are edible raw and are sweeter then mature leaves
  • Older plants may be bitter
  • Rhizome can be boiled
  • Grow in western Alberta
  • Grows in dry rocky areas and subalpine area's

Thank You!

Common Sweet Clover

  • You've probably seen the common clover before, in those cute little patches, but did you know these are the only clover that can grow up to 16 leaves! Here are some more sweet facts ( pun intended )
  • Young leaves are able to be eaten raw, and they are sweeter then more mature leaves
  • Seeds and flowers can be used as flavoring, and have been for a long time
  • Did you know they only grow in disturbed areas?
