To Althea,

From Prison

It is a short 32 line poem written while he was in prison the first time. It is about freedom from bondage. There are 4 stanzas, the first is about being with Althea; the second is about wine and drinks; the third is about great kings; and the fourth is about how a prison or cage cannot keep you in; you are free if your mind is free.

Quote

Stone walls do not a prison make,

Nor iron bars a cage;

Minds innocent and quiet take

That for an hermitage
