It could also be an early unknown American civilization. But the problem is that it would take 50, 000 years to sink to the depth it was at in 2001. 50,000 years ago, no civilizations had the capacity to build such complex buildings or statues. They did not have the tools, or knowledge.

Some people will automatically think of Atlantis. But it said specifically in one of Plato's writings, that Atlantis is beyond the Pillars of Hercules - which are the headlands on either side of the Strait of Gilbraltar. They found the Bimini Road, which might not even be a road. It might be a sunken wall, and some people also link that to Atlantis.
