Robert Boyle

James Camerom

In 1985, underwater archaeologist, Robert Ballard, discovered the wreck of the mighty cruise ship, the Titanic

Matthew Maury was a US Naval Officer. Throughout his time with the Navy Maury published detailed works about sea navigation. With his experience with navigation Maury produced instructions for making long distance sailing more efficient.

In England Robert Boyle studied the physical properties of compressed gasses. Boyle's gas laws provided a stepping stone for the use of underwater exploration to determine changes in gas volume when there in pressure change.

On August 25, 1768 Cook set out on a voyage to Tahiti in order to map the movement of Venus as it passed by Earth. Cook also had another objective, to find a southern continent and claim it for England.

In 2012, James Cameron became the first person to perform a solo dive into

Sir John Murray and Sir Charles Wyville Thomson

Borelli creates the first designs for a scuba diving gear that recycles and replenishes air. His drawings show a large bag that uses chemical components to replenish exhaled air

The Challenger's first expedition was to gather data on a wide range of ocean features. During the Challenger's expedition they discovered the Marianas Trench.

December 27, 1831 Darwin set sail aboard the HMS Beagle. The HMS Beagle explored and studied the southern oceans. Darwin studied the geology and biology that was present. Namely Darwin studied Coral Reefs.
