Make sure you have your compass, so you don't travel around in circles. Have a fire going at all times to signal someone that could see it. Make a trail behind you to guide rescuers. The trail should not be food that can be eaten and attract predators. Pieces of cloth make a good trail.
One thing to avoid are piranhas that can be found in the Amazon River. Jaguars, poison dart frogs, anacondas, alligators, and leeches are other dangerous animals. Not only are these dangerous but mosquitoes can also be because of malaria. Make sure to keep yourself covered as much as possible to avoid cuts that can be easily infected. Also, try and water proof your shoes if you have plastic. If you can't water proof them, make sure not to wear socks. Your socks could become wet and cause foot fungus.
One of the most important things to surviving is finding food. The Amazon is filled with many different things to eat such as: fruit, vegetables, and nuts. One thing to be careful about is to only eat familiar food since some berries are poisonous. Fish is also available in the Amazon. If you decide to catch fish, eat it right away instead of keeping it to avoid attracting predators.
Shelter is another important thing to surviving. The best place to build a shelter is at high ground and close to a water source. It is also a good idea to start fires around your shelter to scare off predators. The fire will also come in handy for boiling water to purify it. Since the rainforest has a lot of humidity, it is important to find dry branches and plants. If water is not available, some vines have water in them. Just make sure the liquid is clear.

While my friends and I were visiting Peru, we decided on going on an Amazon Rainforest tour. Half way through the trip, however, we ran out of gas. Our tour guide had forgotten more gas which means that we were stuck there for the night or however long it took someone to go look for us. While off gathering fire wood, our tour guide got attacked by a jaguar and died. After weeks in the rainforest, we were finally found and saved.
