Wheat Cultivation

  • The initial wheat farmed is brought bought by wholesalers. The wholesalers then sell the wheat to processors to turn into flour or sell it to other wholesalers for a bigger profit. Finally, the processors sell the flour to bakers to be turned into bread.

  • The United States has been the top destination for Indian agricultural exports for the past two years. Most of the other countries that buy agricultural products from India are developing.

Introduction of wheat farming..

  • Wheat is believed to have first been grown in Southwest Asia. It was first grown in India at about 5000 b.c.
  • Northern India has a wide variety of soils that wheat can be grown on, so this makes it an immensely optimal place for wheat to be grown.
  • It plays a major part in India's economy, as Indian wheat production contributes to about twelve percent of global wheat production. The opportunity to export wheat for India has gone up due to declining wheat production in Western Asia and the United States.
  • However, India only exports wheat if the supply is higher than the demand inside of India itself. The non domestic wheat is sold in South and Southeast Asia, in countries such as Bangladesh, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

The typical farm size and labor force

By Vedha, Esha , Jasleen and Ratan

  • The primary location of wheat farming in India is along the northern plains in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab.
  • The use of irrigation is immensely beneficial to wheat. Of all the wheat production in India, about 85.2 percent is irrigated. The size of a farm can range from a small wheat terrace in the Himalayas for subsistence only to huge agribusinesses along the northern plains, which were brought to India during the green revolution of the 1960s. On the whole, a farm in India averages 1.33 hectacres.
  • Because India is such a large and diverse country, many different labor forces are involved in farming. There are many migrant workers from other South Asian countries such as Nepal as well as farm employees.

How it is grown??

  • Wheat is very adaptable and can thrive in many types of climates, but the most optimum is a cool, moist climate which makes winter the best time to farm wheat in India.
  • The preferred soil has a clay loam structure and can withstand moderate climates.
  • The most effective fertilizer used for wheat contains nitrogen, phosphorus, and potash.

Wheat is predominintely farmed in Europe, East Asia, and South Asia. India produces by far the most wheat in South Asia, and the second most in the world next to China.
