Parental influence

Authoritative parents are those who influence the development of their child in the best manner.

  • Authoritative parents aren't 'overly' strict with their children, yet they dicipline where it is needed. (Nokali, Bachman, Votruba-Drzal, 2010).
  • Depending on how a parent responds to a childs actions, the child will or will not gain proper morals, proper academic organization, and/or proper personality traits (Sharpe, n.d.).

According to Kelsey Sharpe's (a student at Creighton University) scholarly article, parents play a key role in the child's social, moral, and academic development.

in a child's education

Teachers are responsible for a whole classroom of learners, and they must address each students needs in a different way throughout a school day.

Parents have more time to focus individually on their chidlren, everyday.

I chose this topic because I currently live with my boyfriend and his family, and they have a 6 year old who is struggling in many aspects of her life. After watching the routines, I gather that a lot of this could be because lack of structure.

Some parents think it is solely up to the teachers to provide their children with new information, and learning. This, as we will come to find out, is not true.

Parents involvement with their children is important in the child's learning process

(Lyness, 2014)

Parents can help their children succeed in academics & other aspects of life by:

  • Supporting homework expectations
  • teaching organizational skills
  • teaching study skills
  • getting involved
  • talking about school

This topic impacts education because if parents aren't willing to help the children further themselves, this makes it more difficult for the teacher to help them learn.
