Virtual Tour to the

Palace of Versailles

The Hall of Mirrors

Salon d'Apollon

I chose this area because it was the favorite area of Louis XIV in the Palace of Versailles, and it was the place where he received the Prime Ministers and Kings from all over the world.

It is the most elegant and magnificent room in the Palace of Versailles, because it has a lot of mirrors in the walls that give an impressive illusion when the lights are on.

Louis XIV made the Hall of Mirrors to impress visitors. This was his favorite room. Louis received Kings and Prime Ministers of other countries. He met the most important people on the world there.

Visitors love to see this room among all the others because of its splendid decoration , with beautiful sculptures, paintings and red and golden velvet tapestries that demonstrated the splendor of his reign.

I chose this section because it was part of a series of rooms in the Palace of Versailles, and it was dedicated to Apollo, who was the God Sun , for whose name was identified Louis XIV, and it also was the most magnificent of all the Halls! The throne of Louis XIV ( that measured 2.60 mts high) was once here in this room.

This was historically important because ita was her in this room that Louis XIV held official ceremonies. All foreign visitors , passed by. And three nights a week was reserved for his 'court'. Here many important agreements were concluded.

This area impressed the visitors because its walls are fully covered by mirrors which give a very beautiful scenario when the candles were lighted. It is a very big room with golden ornaments that makes it look very elegant. The room's ceiling had beautiful and delicate paintings. People were amazed, because there were a lot of beautiful things in just one buildings.

The Palace of Versailles was made by King Louis XIV who wanted a bigger palace, because he believed that The Louvre Palace wasn't big enough. He made it more beautiful and invested a lot of money to it. On this virtual tour I will show you The Hall of Mirrors, The Chapel of Versailles, The King's Bedroom and Salon d'Apollon.

What qualities do you think Louis XIV wanted people to associate with his rule, military strength, wealth, political power, cultural brilliance? Why?

Louis wanted people to be loyal to him and follow orders. He wanted military to defend him of other people of France who were angry about being starving. Wealth for being remembered by doing things that impressed other people. Political power for other countries not to attack them and also other French people. He wanted no-one to know problems, so that some of the people be happy. Cultural brilliance for country to be beautiful and respected. Because that way he was safe and he was going to enjoy his reign.

I chose Louis XIV's bedroom because it is an emblematic area in the palace. It is where the King passed his last days and confessed to his grand son that he had been a bad king, and told him not to commit the same errors.

King Louis XIV died there. He was sick for several days. He told Louis XVI to not follow his example of ruling. He wanted his grand son to be a better King, but he was only 4 years old, and didn't remember it.

This place attracts visitors, because it is separated by a small golden fence that allows people to see what the king was doing without touching some of the furniture. It is covered by a golden material that makes the room look marvelous

Chapel of Versailles

This chapel represents one of the best examples of Baroque architecture, and I love the Baroque architecture and music. This chapel is very beautiful, because it is extremely detailed, and have some of the most difficult architecture and most expensive.

This impressed people because not all the chapels were made with that dedication that this chapel was made. This chapel was very beautiful, and people were amazed. Chapels have changed, so that old chapel

The chapel carried a lot of very important events. There they celebrated births of children born to the King and Queen, also military victories and the wedding of Louis XV's son later King Louis XVI with Marie Antoinette
