Timeline of the Modern Era

1914

World War I begins with the assignation of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. This was significant because many people died during this war.

1861

Great depression begins in most countries. This led to the rise of communism because it promised to improve the economy.

The Civil War begins. This was important because it was the beginning to the end of slavery in the US.

1886

The United States of America is founded. This is significant because the United States was the first true democracy.

1964

The first true automobile is created. This is significant because it makes life much easier.

1812

2001

The Civil Rights act of 1964 is passed in the United States. This is important because it lead to the beginning of equality between races.

  • September 11, 2001-Islamic terrorist group hijacks 4 planes and crashes three of them into major buildings in the US, killing thousands of people
  • This began the United State's war against terrorism

War of 1812 begins between US and Great Britain. This was significant because it showed that the United States was going to endure.

1948

Israel is established. This begins a violent tension in the middle east that still continues today

1955

Vietnam War begins. This is significant because it was one of the first defeats of a communist country.

1750 CE

The United Nations is established. This is significant because it is supposed to prevent wars from beginning.

Cold War ends. This is significant because Soviet Union fell and a lot of countries ended their communist governments.

Space Race begins. The space race was a competition between the two cold war enemies, US and Soviet Union, for an advantage in spaceflight capability.

Louis Pasteur discovers pasteurization, a method to kill bacteria in food. This makes life much healthier and safer.
